For millennia, people have been expressing concerns
about the nature and effects of the economic
systems that direct their lives. In spite of the high
degree of dissatisfaction with the status quo, a grand overhaul
is usually not a consideration. Such overhauls are too likely
to cause major disruptions to the way of life most of us have
become accustomed. In addition, many of us are invested in
the dysfunctionalities of the economy. It is not unusual for
suggestions to be put forward for some improvements in
particular areas of the economy that affect particular groups
most. Whatever the motive for and nature of these suggestions,
it is important that we appreciate that they are opportunities for
improving on what exists presently.F
